Muscat – With an aim to stimulate the economy and create recreational facilities, the Governor of South Batinah has signed an agreement to develop Ain al Thawrah.

The agreement was signed by Sheikh Saif bin Hamiar al Malik al Shehhi, Governor of South Batinah, and Saif al Hudhrami, CEO of Nakhal Ahlia Investment Company, in the presence of Sheikh Salim bin Abdullah al Madhani, Wali of Nakhal.

The agreement includes the development of Ain al Thawarah and the establishment of a number of services, such as cafes, shades, a recreation area, and a centre for teaching handicrafts.

“Ain al Thawarah attracts tourists from inside and outside the sultanate. The development project will add aesthetic elements to the area round Ain al Thawarah and a number of facilities that tourists need,” Shehhi said.

Ain al Thawarah, popularly known Nakhal Springs, is surrounded by some of the country’s best landscapes. According to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, ‘Close to Nakhal Fort, along a winding road framed by palm trees as far as the eye can see, are the Ain al Thawarah hot springs.’

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik raised the amount allocated to the Governorate Development Programme from RO10mn to RO20mn for each governorate for the current Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) starting from 2022.
