Muscat – Oman and the United States have agreed to continue working jointly to pave the way for a permanent ceasefire in Yemen and an inclusive, durable Yemeni-led resolution to the conflict.
Gen Sultan Mohammed al Nu’amani, Minister of Royal Office, received Tim Lenderking, US Special Envoy for Yemen, on Sunday.
During the meeting, Lenderking conveyed US President Joe Biden’s thanks to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the success of Omani endeavours to get the Yemeni truce extended, along with the president’s appreciation for Oman’s support for efforts exerted by the United Nations and the US to find a permanent and peaceful solution for the Yemeni crisis.
The meeting also discussed the UN proposal to expand and stabilise the provisions of the truce, as well as efforts to tackle pressing humanitarian and economic issues in Yemen. It was agreed to continue joint action in this regard.
Lenderking is travelling in the region, where he will be visiting United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, while members of his team travel to Jordan, as part of US’ efforts to help secure an expansion of the UN-mediated truce and bolster peace efforts.
‘The special envoy and his team will focus on helping meaningfully expand benefits of the truce to all Yemenis and pave the way for a permanent ceasefire and an inclusive, durable Yemeni-led resolution to the conflict,’ the US Department of State said.
