6 Mar 2022 CMA

Muscat – The Capital Market Authority (CMA) participated in a workshop titled ‘Regulatory Frameworks of Crowdfunding Platforms, Regional and International Experiences’ organised by the Arab Monetary Fund from March 2-3.

The workshop highlighted the realities and prospects of crowdfunding platforms in the Arab world.
The workshop also exchanged expertise related to the regulatory frameworks of crowdfunding platforms based on best regional and global practices, through working papers presented by specialist and researchers from the member counties, according to a press release issued by the CMA.

CMA presented a working paper on its crowdfunding platforms experience. It was presented by Musab Mohammed al Lawati, director of supervision and compliance, who supervised the regulation of the crowdfunding platforms activity.

The paper contained detailed accounts on the types of crowdfunding platforms in the sultanate, categories of investors, general features of the regulation for crowdfunding platforms and obligations of applicants for financing.

Crowdfunding is a window for entrepreneurs and innovators to receive financing from donors or investors to support their projects. This process is done through an electronic platform, which enables the small and medium enterprises to obtain financing. CMA issued the Regulation for Crowdfunding via Decision No 153/2021 dated November 21, 2021.
