Muscat – Muscat Municipality is implementing a project to repair and strengthen coastal protection structures along the seafront road in Muttrah.

Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Nabhani, a road engineer at Muscat Municipality, said the project extends over 268m and costs RO3mn. It aims to protect the road from the sea waves and coastal erosion, while reducing the risk of further damage.

Al Nabhani said the project includes rehabilitating rock protection structures, constructing concrete pillars, installing wave-breaker units and repairing damaged sections of existing walls. Maintenance work will also be carried out on the road and pavements.

He said technical teams were monitoring the installation of the pillars and the preparation of concrete mixes, as well as inspecting the rocks and verifying the quality of the wave-breaker units to ensure compliance with approved technical specifications.

The project is scheduled to be completed in April 2027, with a contract period of 395 days.

Al Nabhani said the project would improve the efficiency and resilience of coastal infrastructure in Muttrah, helping safeguard the seafront road against the impact of waves and erosion and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
