Astana, Kazakhstan – The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Kazakhstan have agreed to deepen their strategic partnership, with focus on expanding bilateral trade, boosting investment, strengthening connectivity and developing cooperation in emerging sectors.
The commitments were outlined in a joint statement issued following the state visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Kazakhstan on October 5 and 6, 2026, at the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The visit marked a historic milestone as the first state visit by the Sultan of Oman to Kazakhstan, underscoring the growing relations between the two countries.
The two leaders held high-level talks on bilateral relations, ongoing joint projects and opportunities to further intensify cooperation. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments and reaffirmed their commitment to relations based on mutual respect, trust and constructive cooperation.
A key priority identified in the joint statement was expanding bilateral trade and diversifying the range of goods exchanged between the two countries.
Oman and Kazakhstan agreed to take coordinated measures to broaden trade, address existing barriers and facilitate greater access for products from both countries to their respective markets.
The leaders also stressed the importance of expanding investment cooperation in energy, natural resources, manufacturing, food, healthcare, logistics, tourism, renewable energy and mining.
They highlighted the potential for increased mutual investment and joint economic initiatives that could create new production capacities, generate employment and strengthen industrial cooperation.
The two sides also called for stronger business partnerships between the Astana International Financial Centre and Oman International Financial Centre.
Several key agreements were signed during the visit, including an agreement on the reciprocal encouragement and protection of investment, an air transport agreement and another establishing a joint investment fund.
Other agreements covered the establishment of a presence for the Eurasian Development Bank in Oman and the creation of the Oman-Kazakhstan Business Council, alongside a number of interagency memoranda of understanding.

Connectivity and energy
The leaders placed particular emphasis on strengthening transport and logistics connectivity between Central Asia and the Gulf, highlighting the potential of Oman and Kazakhstan to contribute to sustainable corridors linking Central Asian markets with the Middle East, Africa and other regions.
They also stressed the importance of establishing direct and regular air connectivity between Oman and Kazakhstan, which would support business, tourism, cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts.
Agriculture and food security were identified as further areas with significant potential for cooperation.
In the energy sector, the two countries reaffirmed their interest in deeper cooperation and expressed readiness to explore mutually beneficial joint projects in energy, petrochemicals, industrial production and processing.

Digital technology and education
The partnership will also extend into future-oriented sectors, with both sides highlighting opportunities in digital technologies, artificial intelligence, innovation and human capital development.
The two countries expressed readiness to encourage partnerships between technology companies, innovation hubs and academic institutions to promote knowledge exchange and innovation.
Education and research will also receive greater attention through student and academic staff exchanges, joint educational programmes and collaborative research initiatives.
The leaders reaffirmed the important role of the Oman-Kazakhstan Joint Committee in broadening cooperation and agreed to maintain regular political dialogue and communication at the highest levels.
At the conclusion of the visit, President Tokayev expressed appreciation to His Majesty for the state visit, while His Majesty Sultan Haitham thanked the Kazakh President for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
His Majesty reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to strengthening friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Kazakhstan and extended an invitation to President Tokayev to visit the sultanate.
