Muscat-  The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth will organise an academic symposium on Wednesday, September 30, exploring the history of currency and coinage in Oman’s civilisation.

Represented by the Literary Forum, the ministry will hold the symposium at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat.

The symposium will examine the role of currency and numismatics across Oman’s history, with presentations by academics and specialists in the field.

The programme will feature several papers, including Qarmatian Coins Minted in Oman (354–362 AH/965–983 AD), to be presented by Dr Ibrahim bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Fadhli; The Transition from Metal Coinage to Paper Currency in the Sultanate of Oman (1893–1974), by Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Kharusi; and an overview of archaeological coin hoards discovered in Oman.

The symposium will be moderated by Zakia bint Saif Al Maamari.
