Oman reaffirms support for UNRWA, Palestinian cause

Cairo, Egypt – HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary for Political Affairs in the Foreign Ministry, and Christian Saunders, Acting Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), met in Cairo on Tuesday on the sidelines of a ministerial session of the Arab League Council.

The meeting focused on the humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, the operational and financial challenges facing UNRWA, and ways to strengthen cooperation to ensure the continued provision of essential services to Palestinian refugees.

HE Al Harthy reaffirmed the sultanate’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and underscored UNRWA’s vital role in promoting humanitarian stability in the region.

He stressed the need for concerted Arab and international efforts to provide UNRWA with the necessary support to enable it to carry out its responsibilities without hindrance.

Saunders expressed his deep appreciation for Oman’s consistent support for humanitarian causes and commended the sultanate’s active role in backing United Nations programmes and relief initiatives serving the Palestinian people.
