Muscat – The shrimp fishing season in Oman officially commenced on September 1 and will run until November 30. Ahead of the season, official statistics for 2025 highlighted a total production of 6,321.46 tn with a total production value of RO 14.15 mn. This comprised 953.96 tn from natural fisheries valued at RO 1.75 mn and 5,367.50 tn from aquaculture valued at RO 12.40 mn.

To safeguard marine resources and ensure sustainability, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has outlined clear regulations. Fishing, possession, trading, buying, selling, transporting, storing, exporting, and freezing are strictly prohibited outside the designated season.

Furthermore, the use of trawl nets and Kufa nets is banned, whereas permitted fishermen are authorised to use specific Al-Ghadd nets along with licensed fishing methods. Compliance with these rules ensures the protection of shrimp stocks for future generations.
