Muscat – Six people were killed and 18 others injured in a multiple-vehicle collision in Samail on Friday night, according to the Royal Oman Police (ROP).

Eight of the injured are in critical condition.

The accident occurred on Sultan Thuwaini bin Saeed Road in the Wadi Bani Rawaha area of the Al Mahal locality, as vehicles were travelling towards Muscat.

ROP’s Directorate General of Traffic said the collision involved a truck and several vehicles. Besides loss of lives and injuries, the accident caused traffic congestion, prompting police to urge motorists to exercise caution.

The Ministry of Health stated that the National Centre for Emergency and Public Health Risk Management responded to the accident and that those injured were being treated at health facilities affiliated with the ministry.

The response was supported by the Medical City for Military and Security Services and University Medical City, under the follow-up of the Minister of Health.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology informed that its Transport Safety Office had begun an investigation into the collision and offered condolences to the families of those who died, while wishing the injured speedy recovery.
