Since its establishment in 1991, Ahmad Bin Majid International School (ABM) has built its place in Oman’s education landscape around a clear belief: affordable international education does not have to come at the expense of national identity.

“Our guiding philosophy, Rooted in Oman, Reaching the World, reflects our commitment to shaping future leaders who can adapt to changing global needs while remaining firmly grounded in their culture, values and national identity,” said ABM Board Member Waheeda Said.

Rooted in Identity and Values

“At ABM, Omani identity is the foundation for global engagement. Arabic language, Islamic ethics, Omani values, citizenship, responsibility and perseverance remain central to school life and closely align with the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040,” said Board Member Hamad Al Timami.

Students put these values into action. Through the Green Ablution Project, recycled wudu water helps irrigate greenery around the school. The student-driven ABM Ramadan Iftar Khayma Program has served more than 10,000 iftar meals, while annual food drives support families and individuals in need.

These experiences connect faith, service, sustainability and learning, supporting ABM’s aim for students to be proudly Omani and confidently international.

Building Global Wings

ABM has steadily expanded learning beyond the classroom through international exchanges, research, leadership programs, competitions and collaborations. Connections with UNESCO, Cambridge International Education, Pearson Edexcel and Harvard-affiliated initiatives expose students to international perspectives while encouraging them to represent Oman with confidence.

During the 2025–2026 academic year, ABM students won the CIPP Youth Innovation Competition, competing within a global field of approximately 30,000 participants.

Whether travelling to Japan, Germany, South Korea or the United States, students are encouraged to see themselves not simply as participants, but as young ambassadors of Oman. Global exposure should not dilute identity; it should strengthen students’ understanding of what they can contribute to the world.

Innovation Beyond the Classroom

STEM, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship and research are increasingly important elements of the ABM experience. The focus is not simply on using technology, but on giving students opportunities to investigate, design, build and solve real problems.

Through NASA’s International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC), more than 140 ABM students have participated in asteroid-search campaigns. In the next phase, ABM students will mentor Sultan Qaboos University students during joint asteroid-search activities.

Other experiences include programming and constructing robots at Saitama University in Japan, drone demonstrations and simulations, and the Harvard-affiliated HPAIR Computer Vision and AI Program.

Preparing the Leaders of 2040

Strong academics remain essential. Cambridge Checkpoints, IGCSE, AS and A Levels provide internationally recognised pathways, while ABM Grade 12 students have consistently achieved strong results in Oman’s General Education Diploma, including some of the country’s highest national results over the past decade!

But preparing future leaders requires more than academic excellence.

Students take responsibility for exhibitions, projects, events and school initiatives. Entrepreneurship is developed through experiences including the first of it’s kind in Oman Student Startup Summit, Takaful Programs, Injaz Programs and the Harvard-affiliated HPAIR Entrepreneurs Program.

Leadership, after all, cannot be learned only from a textbook or in a classroom. Young people need opportunities to make decisions, present ideas, collaborate, solve problems, experience setbacks and try again.

This is where ABM’s Omani and international identities come together. Heritage and innovation do not have to compete. A student can understand artificial intelligence while valuing Arabic language and ethics; conduct international research while remaining connected to Oman; and think globally while contributing to the Sultanate’s future.

More than three decades after ABM opened its doors, its direction remains clear: to develop young leaders who know where they come from, understand the world they are entering, and have the confidence and character to help shape Oman’s future.
