19 Aug 2026 Muscat Municipality warns against constructing speed bumps By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Muscat Municipality has issued a formal announcement addressing the installation of unauthorised speed bumps on public roads within the governorate.

Authorities emphasised that community safety begins by following proper legal and technical channels, urging residents and entities to avoid constructing unlicenced speed breakers.

To ensure public safety and protect road users, any new speed bump must strictly conform to approved technical specifications and standard dimensions. Furthermore, installations require warning signs placed before the location, clear reflective paint for high visibility, and formal approval based on traffic density studies and regional needs.

The municipality also stressed the importance of coordinating directly with competent authorities during execution. Residents wishing to request a speed bump can submit their official applications through the relevant department of Muscat Municipality within their respective wilayat, the Office of the Wali, or the Traffic Engineering Department of the Royal Oman Police.
