Muscat – The Research and Innovation Authority (RIA) has approved RO2.2mn in institutional funding for 467 research proposals submitted under its 2026 competency-based institutional funding programme.

The funding cycle drew participation from 28 higher education and research institutions, with proposals spanning several research fields aligned with national priorities.

Of the approved projects, 127 are doctoral research proposals, 162 are graduate research projects and 178 are undergraduate student research projects.

The proposals cover areas including education and human resources, environmental and biological resources, information and communication technology, health and social services, energy and industry, culture and humanities, basic sciences and urban planning.

RIA said the level of participation highlights the programme’s role in strengthening national research capabilities and supporting projects with scientific, economic and social value.

The programme is also aimed at aligning research activity with national priorities and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
