Dhofar – Air Sports Village event has officially begun in the coastal wilayat of Taqah within Dhofar Governorate, running as a week-long celebration until August 17.

Organised collaboratively by the Oman Air Sports Committee and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the festival aims to weave aviation sports into the local community fabric while boosting regional tourism.

The grand opening ceremony featured spectacular aerial displays that lit up the skies, delighting large crowds of residents and holidaymakers with live demonstrations of paragliding, kite flying, and advanced drone maneuvers.

Committee Chairman Dr. Ahmed Al Alawi emphasised that the initiative strives to embed air sports deeply into everyday culture, while committee member Hussein Issa noted that this year introduces cutting-edge virtual reality technologies, allowing attendees to fully simulate the thrill of flight.

To conclude the opening proceedings, Sheikh Tarik Khalid Al Hinai, Wali of Taqah, honoured representatives from various public and private sector organisations for their vital support and dedication to advancing local sports and tourism.
