Omani EV maker delivers first 50 vehicles, eyes global markets

Muscat – Oman’s homegrown electric vehicle manufacturer Mays Motors has entered a new phase of commercial expansion after delivering more than 50 Mays Alive electric SUVs and beginning preparations to enter seven overseas markets.

Haider bin Adnan Al Zaabi, co-founder of Mays Motors, told Muscat Daily that the company had moved from product development and proof-of-concept to commercial operations since February 2025.

“To date, we have manufactured and delivered more than 50 Mays Alive electric SUVs to individual customers, as well as government and private sector organisations in the sultanate,” he said.

Al Zaabi said the deliveries marked the start of a broader strategy to establish Mays as an international automotive and technology brand.

While the company’s initial focus has been on the Mays Alive SUV, it plans to introduce electric and hybrid models for different market segments this year.

“We are not limiting ourselves to one vehicle category or to fully electric models,” he said.

Artificial intelligence will remain central to the company’s product strategy. Future vehicles are expected to use technologies capable of recognising voice commands, facial expressions and driver behaviour to provide a more personalised experience.

“Our vision extends beyond manufacturing cars. We are developing intelligent vehicles that interact naturally with their drivers,” Al Zaabi said.

Mays has also built an international pipeline of about 4,000 vehicles. This includes 1,300 units for North Africa, 100 for a Middle Eastern market and 50 for the Gulf, with the remainder allocated to other potential markets.

Partnership agreements have been signed in several countries, while discussions are under way with companies in Asia and Africa.

“We are currently at different stages of entering seven international markets,” he said.

To support its expansion, Mays plans to work with specialised manufacturing partners in several countries. The strategy would reduce logistics costs, speed up deliveries and allow production to be adapted to individual markets.

However, Oman will remain central to the company’s industrial plans. Mays has begun taking steps in Duqm to gradually localise assembly and manufacturing operations.

Al Zaabi informed that the company faced challenges in financing, supply chains and building confidence in a new Omani automotive brand.

The five-seat Mays Alive offers a range of more than 500km on a single charge. Its 64kWh battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

The SUV has a 150kW motor producing 320Nm of torque, driver-assistance systems, a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, panoramic roof and smart connectivity features. It is priced between RO10,000 and RO13,000 and carries a warranty of up to ten years.

“Our ambition is to build a global Omani automotive and technology brand,” Al Zaabi said.
