New York, US – Oman took part in a memorial ceremony in New York on Friday for the mountaineers who lost their lives while climbing Broad Peak in Pakistan on July 30, 2026.

The event was organised by the Consulate General of Nepal.

Speaking at the ceremony, H E Omar bin Said Al Kathiri, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, thanked Nepal for organising the memorial and expressed appreciation to Pakistan for the efforts of its authorities and search-and-rescue teams in recovering and transporting the victims under difficult conditions.

H E Al Kathiri paid tribute to Nadhira Al Harthy, describing her as a symbol of determination and ambition.

Nadhira became the first Omani woman to summit Mount Everest in 2019 and the first Arab woman to climb Nepal’s Ama Dablam. She also scaled several of the world’s highest peaks.

H E Al Kathiri highlighted her contribution to Oman-Nepal relations through her role as president of the Omani-Nepalese Friendship Association and as a goodwill ambassador of the Muscat Free Walking Team.

He also remembered the other climbers who died in the accident and offered condolences to their families.
