Muscat – Rising taekwondo star Nibras Al Tooqi brought pride to the sultanate after winning the silver medal at the 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships 2026, held in Jakarta from August 1 to 5.

Al Tooqi had an impressive run against a highly competitive field of more than 460 athletes representing 35 countries, advancing to the final and securing one of the championship’s top honours.

Al Tooqi dedicated the medal to Oman and thanked everyone who supported his journey. He also encouraged Omani athletes to remain committed to their dreams, stressing that discipline, determination and consistent hard work are the foundation of international success.

“This medal belongs to Oman. I hope it inspires more athletes to believe in themselves, train with dedication and proudly represent our country on the international stage,” Al Tooqi said.

His silver-medal finish is another milestone for Omani taekwondo and reflects the steady progress of the sport in the sultanate, reinforcing Oman’s growing presence in major international competitions.
