Jabal Akhdar – The annual pomegranate harvest has begun across Jabal Akhdar, where more than 27,000 fruit-bearing trees support one of the wilayat’s main agricultural industries.

Figures from the local Agriculture and Water Resources department show that the 2024-2025 crop had an estimated market value of RO1.3mn. More than 90% of the fruit was classified as healthy, with each tree producing an average of 60 pomegranates.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has been using biological controls to combat the pomegranate fruit moth. Around 50.5mn beneficial parasites were released previously, followed by about 15.9mn during the current season.

Leading production areas include Wadi Bani Habib, Siq, Al Sharijah, Al Ayinah, Al Aqr, Hayl Al Yaman, Al Manakhir, Al Suwgra and Al Qash.

The August harvest also adds an agricultural dimension to Jabal Akhdar’s recreation, nature, heritage and adventure tourism offerings.
