Muscat – Social Protection Fund (SPF), in coordination with the Ministry of Labour, has detailed the implementation of the sick leave and extraordinary leave insurance branch, outlining coverage limits, compensation percentages, and employer responsibilities.

Under the scheme, sick leave is covered for a maximum of 182 days per year. Employers are required to cover the first seven days at full pay, while the Social Protection Fund reimburses employers for subsequent periods based on a tiered percentage scale.

Specifically, compensation stands at 100% of the wage from day 8 to day 21, 75% from day 22 to day 35, 50% from day 36 to day 70, and 35% from day 71 to day 182.

Furthermore, the fund confirmed that the mandatory one per cent financial contribution is borne entirely by employers to safeguard workers’ financial stability without reducing employee salaries.
