Muscat – The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has launched a nationwide student competition aimed at raising awareness of digital financial fraud and promoting safer online financial practices among young people.

The initiative invites school and university students to produce creative content that highlights the risks of online scams, phishing attacks, identity theft and fraudulent digital transactions, while encouraging responsible use of digital financial services.

The competition features two categories. The short film category is open to university and college students, who are required to produce a video of no more than three minutes on digital financial fraud. Entries may be submitted individually or by teams of up to four members in MP4 format.

The illustrated story category is designed for school students, who are invited to write a short illustrated story about digital financial fraud in online games. Entries must not exceed 500 words and should be submitted in Microsoft Word format.

The CBO has allocated attractive cash prizes for both categories. Winners in the short film category will receive RO600, RO500 and RO400 for first, second and third places, respectively. In the illustrated story category, the prizes are RO200, RO150 and RO100.

Registration is available through the Central Bank of Oman’s website, with July 9, set as the deadline for submissions.

The competition forms part of the CBO’s broader efforts to enhance financial literacy, strengthen cybersecurity awareness and equip students with the knowledge to identify and prevent digital financial fraud.
