Haima – The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has stepped up market inspections in Haima, Al Wusta, as visitors head to Dhofar for the khareef season in an effort to protect consumers and ensure fair trading during one of Oman’s busiest tourism periods.

Khareef leads to a sharp rise in the number of visitors who take the road to southern Oman while passing through Al Wusta, resulting in an increased demand for food, consumer goods and essential services.

CPA inspection teams are conducting field visits to retail outlets, supermarkets and commercial establishments to ensure businesses comply with the Consumer Protection Law. The inspections focus on verifying that products are clearly priced, customers receive valid invoices and stocks of essential commodities are maintained to prevent shortages and unjustified price increases.

Officials are also checking that goods offered for sale meet approved quality and safety standards, while monitoring commercial practices to curb violations and protect consumer rights.

As part of its awareness campaign, the authority reminded businesses that products may be banned from the Omani market if they fail to meet approved specifications, contain defects affecting quality, pose risks to public health and safety, or conflict with the country’s Islamic values, customs and traditions.

The CPA also warned that selling goods or providing services without complying with mandatory health and safety requirements or obtaining the necessary licences and approvals is prohibited under the Consumer Protection Law.

The authority said inspection campaigns will continue throughout the khareef season to maintain market stability, strengthen consumer confidence and ensure visitors and residents enjoy a safe and fair shopping environment.

Consumers are urged to report suspected violations through the CPA’s official communication channels to support ongoing efforts to enhance market oversight and promote fair competition across the sultanate.
