Bahrain – United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Bahrain on Thursday to attend a significant meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), according to the Bahrain News Agency.

As the final stop on his regional tour, Rubio is engaging with representatives from the six-nation grouping, which includes Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Oman, to discuss the Trump administration’s recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran.

The discussions are focused on addressing concerns held by Gulf allies regarding the agreement and reaffirming the United States’ commitment to regional security, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

During his previous visits to the UAE and Kuwait, Rubio sought to reassure his counterparts that the proposed deal would not undermine their security or be overly favourable to Iran, a nation that targeted several Gulf states during the recent conflict.
