Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik met Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, at Al Barakah Palace on Wednesday.

The prime minister conveyed the greetings of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar. He also conveyed the emir’s good wishes to His Majesty for abundant health and happiness, and to the Omani people for continuous progress and prosperity.

On his part, His Majesty the Sultan asked the guest to convey his heartfelt sentiments and good wishes to the emir and to the Qatari people.

The meeting reviewed developments of the ongoing US-Iranian negotiations, conducted through Qatari-Pakistani mediation, alongside the latest diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war and reaching a definitive and comprehensive settlement of the crisis.

His Majesty the Sultan underscored the importance of advancing these endeavours to secure peace and stability in the region, while emphasising the vital significance of harmonising the constructive initiatives undertaken by sisterly and friendly nations in this regard.

The prime minister praised the pivotal role undertaken by Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty the Sultan, in supporting dialogue, furnishing communication channels and bridging views between the various parties.

Secure navigation in Strait of Hormuz

In a separate meeting, the Qatari Prime Minister and Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, reviewed Omani-Qatari relations and the fruitful bilateral cooperation programmes across various economic and investment fields.

They also discussed strategic partnership opportunities and ways to develop these in a manner that yields greater benefits and interests for the two countries and their peoples.

Furthermore, the two sides discussed developments in the region and the ongoing political and diplomatic actions aimed at containing tensions and creating more sustainable pathways for dialogue and understanding.

They examined recent updates related to the security of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasising the importance of ensuring the smooth flow of trade and energy movement through vital maritime corridors. They noted that this must be carried out in accordance with the rules of international law and in a manner that preserves the sovereignty of states, the safety of navigation and the broader interests of the international community.
