MoH calls for immediate O-ve blood donation, due to critical shortage

7 Jun 2026 MoH calls for immediate O-ve blood donation By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Department of Blood Bank Services, has launched a critical call for public assistance to address a severe shortage of O-negative blood units. Due to an increasing demand for blood transfusions to support emergency medical and surgical cases, the current stock levels have fallen to a level that requires immediate replenishment. The authorities have emphasised that timely contributions from the community are essential to ensure the continued availability of life-saving medical treatments across the Sultanate’s healthcare facilities.

To facilitate the donation process, the Department of Blood Bank Services has specified the operational timings for its main facilities. The Blood Bank in Bausher is available for donors from Saturday to Thursday between 08:00 am and 08:00 pm, and on Fridays from 08:00 am to 02:00 pm. Additionally, the Seeb Blood Donation Centre, located at Araimi Boulevard, is open to the public from Sunday to Friday, operating between 03:00 pm to 09:00 pm. Potential donors are encouraged to contact the department via the provided hotline at 94555648 for further enquiries or to coordinate their visit.
