Rustaq – A community-led tourism initiative in the wilayat of Rustaq is helping preserve Omani heritage while promoting domestic tourism through interactive cultural experiences.

The Integrated Tourism Station initiative aims to highlight the wilayat’s historical and natural attractions in a modern way that combines education, entertainment and cultural awareness. The project seeks to offer visitors an immersive experience that introduces them to the richness of Omani traditions and history.

One of the initiative’s main attractions is the Ain Al Kasfah Museum Studio, located near the well-known Ain Al Kasfah hot springs. The museum showcases a wide collection of heritage items reflecting traditional Omani life, including silverware such as swords, khanjars and jewellery, copper utensils, palm-frond handicrafts, and vintage radios, cameras and recorders. It also displays the traditional Sahara, which preserves valuable family heirlooms and historical artefacts.

The tourism station also includes an interactive heritage studio where visitors can wear traditional Omani clothing and take souvenir photographs. Guided tours introduce visitors to the stories behind the exhibits, while an information corner provides books and resources related to Omani heritage and tourism.

Khalaf bin Harith Al Dhahli, founder of the initiative, said the project was launched to preserve and promote Omani heritage through modern and engaging methods that appeal to younger generations.

He said the initiative also organises heritage exhibitions, cultural competitions and awareness programmes, while participating in national and religious events in cooperation with various organisations.

Al Dhahli added that the project gives special attention to youth and students through educational and awareness activities aimed at strengthening their connection to Omani values and traditions.

He noted that the initiative’s location near Ain Al Kasfah allows visitors to combine natural attractions with cultural experiences, further enhancing Rustaq’s position as a growing tourism destination in Oman.
