Muscat – Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has successfully facilitated an amicable settlement between a vehicle dealership and a consumer, resulting in a refund of RO10,000. The case began when a consumer filed a complaint after discovering rust on the lower parts and rear seat handles of a newly purchased vehicle just thirty minutes after delivery. Although the consumer returned the vehicle immediately, the dealership initially claimed such defects were common in iron-manufactured vehicles.
Following the involvement of the Department of Consumer Services and Market Surveillance, dealership officials were summoned to discuss the matter. Upon acknowledging the defect and considering the consumer’s request for a refund, an agreement was reached to return the full purchase value of OMR 10,000. This resolution aligns with Article 16 of the Consumer Protection Law, which allows consumers to return defective goods within fifteen days of purchase.
