Ibra – North Sharqiyah will soon launch the Urban Regeneration Award for tangible and intangible heritage, an initiative aimed at strengthening community-based tourism while preserving cultural identity and supporting local economic growth.
The award is designed to revive heritage assets through a sustainable approach that bridges the past and the future, encouraging innovative use of traditional spaces and practices. It targets individuals, entrepreneurs and community stakeholders engaged in heritage-led development.
According to the organisers, the award will be presented in two main categories. The first focuses on innovative, ready-to-execute projects that contribute to urban regeneration. The second centres on the development of integrated walkways that enhance local content and create immersive cultural experiences for residents and visitors alike.
The initiative reflects growing national efforts to leverage heritage as a driver of economic diversification, in line with Oman Vision 2040, by promoting small and medium enterprises, supporting creative industries and increasing the attractiveness of destinations across the governorate.
An official launch event is scheduled to take place on May 25, bringing together partners, stakeholders and judging panel members to outline the award’s framework and participation mechanisms.
Officials noted that the award is expected to play a key role in activating heritage sites, encouraging community participation and positioning North Sharqiyah as a hub for authentic cultural tourism experiences.
