Muscat – The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) on Tuesday launched a public survey to assess water conservation behaviour in residential buildings across the sultanate, in cooperation with Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company (Nama Water Services).
The survey, which runs until May 21, targets 1,500 Omani citizens aged 18 and above from all governorates. It seeks to evaluate conservation practices among urban residents and identify the factors shaping water use at the household level, as part of broader efforts to support water demand planning, management and sustainability.
According to NCSI, the study will examine public awareness of the importance of water conservation, levels of commitment to saving practices, and the role of social influence in encouraging behavioural change. It will also assess accessibility to water-saving devices and the ability of households to adjust daily consumption patterns.
Mahfoudh bin Salem Al Musharfi, Director of the Public Opinion Measurement Department at NCSI, said the initiative forms part of the centre’s efforts to generate accurate data on consumption trends to support policymaking.
He added that the findings will help authorities design targeted awareness campaigns for different segments of society, while also strengthening research and studies related to water use.
Al Musharfi noted that collaboration with Nama Water Services reflects an integrated national approach to water resource management, aimed at improving efficiency and advancing sustainability goals.
The survey aligns with NCSI’s mandate to provide reliable indicators for decision-makers and enhance partnerships with relevant entities in support of national water sustainability objectives.
