Muscat – Oman’s women’s ice hockey team has become part of a Guinness World Record after taking part in the International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) Global Girls Game 2026.
The record was set for the ‘Most host countries for the same ice hockey exhibition match event’, with 43 nations staging games simultaneously on March 9. The event was organised by IIHF in Switzerland as a coordinated global effort to promote women’s participation in the sport.
Oman was among the participating countries, marking a significant moment for women’s ice hockey in the sultanate. The national team featured players including captain Al Firdaus Al Kindi, Khulood Al Busaidi, Dalal Al Busaidi, Aysal Waheed, Erileck Cameron and Mariangel Delgado.
Saud Al Aufi, Chairman of Oman Skating Sports Committee, said the recognition reflects the team’s commitment and progress. “This is a proud moment for Oman. To be counted among 43 nations in an official Guinness World Record is a testament to the dedication and spirit of our women’s ice hockey team,” he said. “This achievement is not just a record; it is an inspiration for every young girl in Oman who dreams of playing sports.”
The Global Girls Game is held annually by IIHF to introduce ice hockey to new players and boost female participation worldwide. For emerging programmes such as Oman’s, the initiative offers international visibility and a platform to build momentum.
Al Aufi said the milestone also signals broader backing for women athletes in the country. “For Oman, it highlights growing support for women athletes and their presence on the international stage,” he said.
The committee acknowledged the role of coaches Gregory Cameron and Ibrahim Mohammady in guiding the team’s development.
