29 Apr 2026 MoE clarifies high school diploma equivalency requirements By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Ministry of Education (MoE) has issued an official notice to address parental inquiries regarding the equivalency of High School Diplomas for the 2025/2026 academic year. Under the current regulations, students are required to demonstrate competency through specific international testing standards. To achieve equivalency, a student should provide evidence of passing either the SAT I or the Advanced Placement tests.

For those choosing the SAT I, a minimum combined score of 800 is required across the Mathematics and English components. Alternatively, students may successfully complete two AP Test subjects of their choosing, provided they achieve a minimum score of three points in each subject. These requirements are applicable to graduates from private schools located both within and outside the Sultanate of Oman. However, the Ministry has specified that these particular rules do not apply to students attending American schools.

Looking ahead to the 2026/2027 academic year, the Ministry will transition to the standards outlined in the 2025 Edition of the Guide for the Equivalency of International School Qualifications. This announcement serves to ensure that all students and their families are well-informed of the necessary steps to secure official recognition of their secondary education achievements.
