Nama Water rolls out major network upgrades across Oman

Muscat – Nama Water Services is continuing to implement strategic programmes to upgrade water networks and replace household connections across Oman, as part of its efforts to improve system efficiency, enhance supply reliability and ensure the sustainable use of resources.

The initiative supports urban and economic development, environmental protection and improved quality of life.

The company has undertaken a comprehensive rehabilitation programme across several governorates, upgrading approximately 1,200km of water networks and replacing more than 45,000 household connections. These efforts underline the scale of work being carried out to strengthen network efficiency and improve the reliability of water supply.

Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, CEO of Operations and Maintenance at Nama Water Services, said network maintenance and rehabilitation projects are central to improving overall system performance. He noted that the company is adopting an integrated approach that combines infrastructure development with modern technological solutions.

“This approach forms part of our strategy to sustainably expand water and wastewater networks, while improving operational efficiency through advanced technologies and proactive maintenance,” he said.

Al Nuaimi added that the company remains committed to strengthening water security through a broad portfolio of projects, including new network connections and the upgrade and maintenance of existing systems. These initiatives are aimed at reducing water losses, improving service reliability and enhancing customer experience.

He said the projects also support the integration of water and wastewater services, the development of pumping and treatment systems, and greater interconnection of networks to achieve long-term operational efficiency and sustainability.

Providing a breakdown of recent works, Al Nuaimi said rehabilitation and maintenance activities covered multiple governorates. These included 300km in Muscat, 202km in North Al Batinah, 194km in South Al Batinah, 152km in Al Dakhiliyah, more than 136km in South Al Sharqiyah, 95km in Al Dhahirah, 73km in Al Buraimi, 34km in Musandam, and over 6km in North Al Sharqiyah.

He added that the company has also implemented a programme to replace household connections linking customer meters to main distribution networks, helping to reduce water losses, improve network performance and enhance service quality.

Al Nuaimi said these projects go beyond infrastructure upgrades, delivering tangible benefits to communities. This includes replacing ageing networks with more efficient systems and upgrading metering through the installation of accurate digital meters integrated with the company’s digital services.

“These efforts enhance water resource management and contribute to broader development outcomes, including improved service quality, reduced environmental challenges and increased attractiveness of residential areas,” he said.

He noted that the projects are being implemented in phases based on detailed studies, data analysis and prioritisation to maximise their impact on operational efficiency and resource sustainability.

Nama Water Services will continue to develop the water system in line with global best practices, focusing on improving efficiency while maximising benefits for customers.
