Muscat – The Ministry of Labour has announced that employers may recover the cost of travel tickets deposited in cases related to work abandonment notifications, subject to approved conditions.
In a statement, the ministry said the service allows employers – individuals and establishments – to request a refund of the travel ticket amount deposited as a financial guarantee when filing a work abandonment report for expatriate workers.
The request can be submitted electronically through the ministry’s system after meeting the required legal and administrative conditions.
According to the ministry, refunds will be granted once the legal period of the work abandonment report is completed. This period extends to four years from the date the report is approved.
A refund may also be issued if the employer submits a request to cancel the report and the application is approved in the ministry’s system.
The ministry added that employers can recover the deposited amount if a grievance filed by the worker against the work abandonment notification is accepted and the case is resolved accordingly.
Another situation allowing a refund is when the worker has left the country at his or her own expense without using the ticket amount held in the ministry’s account.
The ministry said the measure is part of efforts to improve transparency in labour procedures and streamline services for employers. It added that clearer mechanisms for recovering ticket deposits will help regulate work abandonment processes while ensuring financial guarantees are managed in an efficient and fair manner.
