Muscat – Royal Oman Police (ROP) have issued a formal advisory to the public regarding an increase in sophisticated fraudulent activities involving video communication platforms. Criminals are reportedly using these digital tools to impersonate official figures, including police officers and various government employees, with the intent to deceive and defraud citizens. These fraudsters often create a sense of urgency by threatening their targets with fictitious legal proceedings to pressure them into compliance.

During these fraudulent interactions, scammers pretend to represent trusted entities to solicit sensitive personal or financial information from unsuspecting individuals. In response to these threats, the police have strongly urged the public to verify the identity of any caller through official channels before responding to requests or providing data. The authorities emphasise that protecting personal information is a collective responsibility and advise everyone to remain vigilant against these deceptive tactics to ensure community safety.
