Muscat – Several wilayats across the sultanate witnessed varying intensities of rainfall on Wednesday, leading to the flow of wadis and streams in a number of areas.
In Jabal Akhdar in Dakhliyah governorate, heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and hailstones was reported, covering most villages and localities in the wilayat. The downpour led to the flow of several wadis, including Wadi Saiq, Wadi Qatam, Al Manakhir, and the wadis of Hail Al Masbat, Al Shuraijah, Wadi Bani Habib, Al Suwjirah, Al Roos and Hail Al Yaman. The rainfall also resulted in the filling of a number of underground dams in the area.
In Hamra in Dakhliyah governorate, moderate to heavy rainfall was also reported, particularly over the wilayat centre and mountainous areas. Heavy rain fell over parts of Jabal Al Sharqi and surrounding villages, leading to the flow of Wadi Al Mad’am, Al Milh and Al Salil. The rainfall also caused the flow of Wadi Ghul, Al Nakhar and Dufiyah, while villages such as Al Soudi, Harmat and Al Aishi recorded rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy.
Residents expressed hope that the rainfall would bring continued blessings and benefit to the country.
Meanwhile, Rustaq in South Batinah experienced very heavy rainfall, affecting various villages and areas of the wilayat. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in the wilayat centre and in the wadis of Bani Ghafir, Bani Hani, Al Sahtan and Bani Auf, causing streams to flow and wadis to swell.
