Nizwa – Construction of Dakhliyah Square in Nizwa has reached 71%, while work on an integrated public transport station is 20% complete, with combined investments exceeding RO15mn.

Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed Al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, said the projects aim to strengthen urban infrastructure, improve public services and support the governorate’s growing economic and tourism activities.

Dakhliyah Square covers approximately 145,000sqm and costs more than RO8.37mn. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2027.

The development will feature green spaces, walking paths, cycling tracks, sports facilities, cultural and recreational areas, investment sites and a market for productive families. Walking and sports routes will extend for around 4km.

The project is expected to generate approximately 380 direct and indirect jobs after completion and provide 57 investment opportunities. Local content during implementation is estimated at RO4mn, creating opportunities for small and medium enterprises and artisan families.

The square is aligned with Nizwa’s urban development plans and the Nizwa Healthy Lifestyles Initiative, encouraging physical activity and the use of public spaces.

The integrated public transport station represents an investment of around RO7mn and is being developed by the governorate in partnership with the private sector.

Al Hajri said excavation work for the station building had been completed, while construction of the cargo area was 82% complete. Site preparations also include the relocation of pipelines and SCADA system cables.

Inspired by Nizwa Gate, the station will feature two six-storey commercial towers connected by a commercial centre, incorporating elements of local architectural identity.

Following completion, Mwasalat is expected to manage the station and operate bus services connecting cities in partnership with local operators.

Al Hajri said the projects would enhance connectivity, create investment opportunities and strengthen local content, supporting sustainable urban and economic development in Nizwa.
