15 Oct 2026 Oman Cables Industry breaks ground on Plant 3 By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Oman Cables Industry (SAOG), the Sultanate’s leading cable manufacturer and solutions provider, has marked the groundbreaking of Plant 3, an investment of over RO 10 million, under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals. Part of the company’s broader RO 15 million+ strategic investment programme in advanced manufacturing in Oman over recent years, Plant 3 will expand Oman Cables’ manufacturing capabilities to support the growing power and infrastructure requirements of Oman and the region.

More than an expansion of Oman Cables’ manufacturing footprint, Plant 3 represents an investment in how the company manufactures for the future, bringing together AI-powered technologies for safer, smarter, and more sustainable operations, alongside a strong focus on Omani talent and leadership development. The project reinforces Oman Cables’ long-term commitment to the Sultanate and its contribution to the national priorities of Oman Vision 2040, enhancing industrial competitiveness, driving the shift toward cleaner and more efficient infrastructure required for the energy transition.

Built on more than four decades of manufacturing experience in the Sultanate, Plant 3 will further expand Oman Cables’ advanced manufacturing capacity and technical expertise as the new state-of-the-art facility will feature first in Oman and Particularly in Rusyal Industrial City a 42-metre cable production tower, capability for cable drums exceeding four meters and drum-handling capacity of up to 50 tonnes, creating a future-ready manufacturing platform designed to respond to the increasingly sophisticated energy and infrastructure requirements.

At the heart of Plant 3 is a vision for a smarter, more connected, and sustainable factory. The facility will integrate a Manufacturing Execution System (MES), AI predictive maintenance and AI-driven quality monitoring to provide greater visibility and control across the manufacturing process. Safety is embedded into the facility from the design to operation, including AI-powered forklift safety systems, real-time safety monitoring and reporting, supported by Lean Manufacturing and 6S standards. Sustainability is equally embedded in this approach, building on more than 50 energy-efficiency and circularity initiatives across Oman Cables’ operations to advance lower-carbon manufacturing and integrate sustainable practices throughout its industrial processes.

The investment places Omani talent at the center of its manufacturing model, with a strong focus on upskilling and developing the technical, professional and leadership capabilities required for the next generation of manufacturing. Plant 3 is expected to create more than 60 employment opportunities, further supporting local talent development and industrial growth. Through Oman Cables’ strategic partnership with Prysmian, local teams are connected to a global network of more than 30 R&D centers, bringing international know-how, technology and innovation into local practice. This creates opportunities for Omani engineers, professionals and future leaders to grow alongside the technologies shaping the industry and contribute from Oman to an increasingly global industrial landscape.

H.E. Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, said: “Oman Cables Industry’s expansion through Plant 3 represents a strategic investment in the country’s industrial capacity to meet the growing needs of electricity networks and infrastructure. As Sultanate of Oman advances its solar, wind and green hydrogen projects, alongside urban and industrial development, the project creates opportunities for locally manufactured products to serve domestic demand and compete in global markets. We see these investments as an opportunity to turn growing demand into stronger local content by localising industrial capabilities and technologies and developing Omani talent. Connecting industrial growth with clean energy, modern cities and the development of industry and logistics will help diversify the economy and deliver broader development benefits, advancing the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.”

Cinzia Farisè, Chairman of Oman Cables Industry, said: “The energy and infrastructure landscape is transforming rapidly, and so is the role we play within it. We are moving beyond cable manufacturing towards a more integrated solutions model, bringing together products, technology, innovation and expertise to address increasingly complex energy and infrastructure needs. Plant 3 is an important step in this journey, enabling us to better serve our customers, expand our regional reach and create long-term value for our stakeholders and the markets we serve.”

As part of the groundbreaking, Oman Cables’ Board members, employees, operators, partners and guests signed a structural beam that will become part of Plant 3, marking the beginning of this new chapter.

With more than 40 years of industrial presence in the Sultanate, Oman Cables today combines its manufacturing base in Oman with an expanding presence across the GCC, alongside Oman Aluminium Processing Industries (OAPIL) in Oman and Associated Cables Private Limited (ACPL) in India. Through its strategic partnership with Prysmian, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, Oman Cables connects its local manufacturing strength with global expertise, technologies, international know-how and standards, enabling it to innovate and create value across Oman and the wider region.

Beyond manufacturing, Oman Cables is building an integrated ecosystem through its Innovation Centre, Renewable Excellence Centre and Global Sustainability Academy, connecting industrial capability with innovation, renewable-energy expertise, sustainability and talent development. Plant 3 marks the next phase of this evolution, further positioning Oman as a base for expertise and solutions that serve growing infrastructure needs and the energy transition across the region.

From its roots in Oman to its growing regional and global reach, Oman Cables continues to invest in the capabilities, technologies and people shaping the future of the industry.
