Muscat – Oman has called for stronger cooperation and partnerships among Arab filmmakers, film institutions and cultural organisations to address emerging challenges facing the region’s creative industries and promote productions that highlight the Arab world’s shared heritage and identity.

The call was made during the General Assembly meeting of the General Union of Arab Artists, held as part of the fourth edition of the Hurghada Youth Film Festival, running from September 10 to 15 in Hurghada, Egypt.

The festival has brought together artistic and cultural delegations from 16 Arab countries.

Oman was represented by filmmaker Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Ajmi, Vice President of the General Union of Arab Artists. The meeting was chaired by Dr Mosaad Fouda, President of the Union and Head of the Egyptian Cinema Professions Syndicate.

Al Ajmi stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships between the Union and film institutions and festivals in Oman and other Arab countries.

He highlighted the growing momentum of Oman’s cinematic and cultural scene, including its participation in international film forums and judging panels, and the recognition earned by Omani filmmakers and films at prominent festivals.

“Cinema has no borders; it is the bridge through which our stories, our heritage and our shared identity can travel from one Arab heart to another,” Al Ajmi said.

He also highlighted the Union’s support for the Al Batinah Film Festival, where it presented an official award, describing the initiative as an important step towards strengthening ties between Arab film organisations.

Al Ajmi called for greater Union participation in upcoming festivals and cultural events across the region to promote collaboration and exchange of expertise.
