Muscat – The number of mobile telecommunications subscriptions in Oman rose 1.3% year-on-year to 8.324mn by the end of June 2026, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

Active postpaid mobile subscriptions increased 6.2% to 1.314mn, while prepaid subscriptions declined 2.1% to 5.305mn.

Internet of Things subscriptions recorded stronger growth, rising 9.3% to 1.705mn.

Active mobile broadband subscriptions edged up 0.3% to 5.534mn, while fixed broadband connections increased 0.5% to 591,630.

Fibre-optic subscriptions for homes and businesses climbed 7.4% to 364,487, reflecting continued migration towards higher-speed fixed networks.

In contrast, fixed 5G subscriptions fell 2.5% to 210,125, while fixed 4G connections dropped sharply by 73% to 5,666. DSL subscriptions also declined 20.9% to 8,933.

Satellite internet recorded the fastest percentage growth among fixed technologies, surging 134.3% to 1,696 subscriptions, albeit from a low base.

Active fixed-line telephone subscriptions rose marginally by 0.2% to 439,829.

International internet capacity meanwhile increased 31.8% to 5.382mn megabits per second by the end of June.
