Muscat – Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced the implementation of a ban on catching, possessing, and trading kingfish across all coasts of Sultanate.

The restriction will commence on August 15 and remain in effect until October 15, aiming to protect fish stocks and ensure sustainable fisheries during the reproduction period.

In 2025, Oman’s total kingfish production reached 19,743 tonnes with a total value of 44.422 million Omani Rials, where the Al Wusta and South Sharqiyah governorates together contributed approximately 83.5% of the overall yield.

During the ban, all fishermen, transporters, companies, and related institutions must refrain from any handling, storage, or export of kingfish, while individuals possessing existing stocks are required to register them with the relevant authorities to avoid legal penalties.
