Salalah – The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has intensified security and traffic operations across Dhofar as rising visitors place added pressure on roads, event venues and tourist sites during the 2026 khareef season.

Patrols and security points have been deployed along major routes and at crowded locations, supported by public security personnel, air ambulance services, and civil defence and ambulance teams.

Col Salem bin Mohammed Al Kaf, Assistant Commander of Dhofar Governorate Police, said the measures were designed to improve emergency response, reduce road accidents and assist tourists travelling to the governorate.

Col Al Kaf added that the Wadi Harit Police Station is receiving visitors and advising them on safe driving, particularly on mountain roads where fog can sharply reduce visibility.

Lt Col Suleiman bin Saeed Al Hatali, Director of Operations, said the plan focuses on three areas: main roads, event locations and tourist attractions, including beaches and natural springs. “The operations centre is working around the clock to handle accidents, complaints and requests for assistance.”

ROP has also introduced motorcycle patrols to reach beaches, plains and rugged areas more quickly. Mounted police are covering locations that are difficult for vehicles to access, with officers reporting that missing children are among the most common cases at crowded events.

Police urged parents to keep children under close supervision.

Traffic measures include a QR code available at Wadi Harit that provides drivers with an alternative-route map during accidents or truck breakdowns. Police are also working with Dhofar Municipality to give priority to heavily congested lanes at traffic signals.

Authorities warned motorists against drifting, driving on green areas, overtaking on road shoulders and allowing passengers to lean out of windows or sunroofs. Such offences will be dealt with under traffic laws.

Along the coast, the Coast Guard has deployed personnel, all-terrain vehicles and jet skis at busy beaches. Visitors have been warned about rough seas, high waves, strong currents and the danger of approaching rocky cliffs.

ROP advised motorists travelling long distances to rest when tired, avoid speeding and follow police instructions to ensure a safe tourism season.
