Salalah – Dhofar Governorate has signed a cooperation agreement with the Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation and Dhofar Tourism Company to develop Arabian horse beauty championships as a major feature of the governorate’s tourism seasons.

The agreement was signed on Thursday by H H Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar; Sayyid Munther bin Saif Al Busaidi, Chairman of the Oman Equestrian and Racing Federation; and Fatima bint Yusuf Al Ibrahim, Chairperson of Dhofar Tourism Company.

The initiative aims to use Dhofar’s tourism assets and event infrastructure to expand Arabian horse championships and establish them as recurring attractions linked to the governorate’s seasonal calendar.

H H Sayyid Marwan said the agreement builds on cooperation between the governorate and relevant organisations that began in 2024. It forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen tourism, attract investment and support year-round economic diversification.

He said the partnership could serve as a starting point for an integrated industry around Arabian horse events, generating benefits for the local community and economy.

The agreement seeks to position Dhofar as a regional and international destination for equestrian sport and Arabian horse beauty competitions. It also aims to increase the economic and tourism impact of championships by attracting owners, breeders, participants and visitors.

The initiative will highlight the historical association between the wilayat of Mirbat and Arabian horses while supporting the preservation of national heritage.

It also provides for the training of local talent and assistance for horse owners and breeders, helping ensure the long-term development of Arabian horse championships in Dhofar.
