Nizwa – Court in Nizwa has issued a significant judicial ruling against an electrical and electronic appliance shop within the Dakhliyah Governorate.

The legal action stemmed from a consumer complaint regarding an agreement for the purchase and installation of air-conditioning units valued at RO 3,700, for which the customer had already paid an advance of RO 2,590. The establishment failed to provide the contracted services, resulting in a violation of the Consumer Protection Law.

The court convicted the defendants, ordered the permanent closure of the shop, and mandated a refund of RO 2,290 to the affected consumer. Additionally, the establishment was issued a fine of RO 100, while the second defendant received a suspended three-month prison sentence and an additional RO 100 fine. The defendants were further ordered to bear all costs associated with the criminal and civil proceedings. The Consumer Protection Authority continues to urge all suppliers to fulfil their contractual obligations to ensure the protection of consumer rights.
