Muscat – Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has signed nine agreements worth RO3.5mn aimed at expanding access to education, strengthening healthcare services, protecting the environment and creating new opportunities for Omani youth.

Signed at PDO’s Mina Al Fahal headquarters on Sunday, the agreements support the goals of Oman Vision 2040 through investments in people, essential services and environmental sustainability. The initiatives also align with PDO’s transformation journey – ‘For Oman’- reinforcing the company’s commitment to creating value beyond its core operations.

Dr Aflah Al Hadhrami, Managing Director of PDO, said the partnerships reflect the company’s long-standing commitment to investing in national priorities and helping build a stronger and more resilient future for Oman.

In education, PDO will continue supporting the Community Scholarship Programme in partnership with the Ministry of Education, enabling 150 students from concession areas to pursue higher education. More than 1,400 students in seven government schools in Haima and Al Jazir will benefit from high-speed Internet connectivity to support digital learning.

PDO also launched the first Tamayuz cohort, recognising 20 outstanding scholarship students through an international enrichment programme focused on leadership, innovation and career readiness. In addition, the company has partnered with the ministry to provide practical training opportunities for 250 university students specialising in electrical engineering.

The company will also continue supporting the Musta’ed Youth Skills Development Programme – now in its fifth edition – implemented by Outward Bound Oman in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. The programme will equip 500 young Omanis aged between 15 and 18 with leadership, entrepreneurship and future-ready skills.

As part of its environmental initiatives, PDO signed an agreement with the Environment Authority to support the National Marine Early Detection System, which will use advanced monitoring stations and smart sensors to track seawater quality in real time and provide early warnings of pollution risks.

In healthcare, PDO will fund a national capacity-building programme at the Excellence Centre for Developmental Paediatrics at University Medical City. The initiative is expected to create 74 jobs initially, growing to 129 within three years, while enhancing specialised services for children with developmental conditions.

Patients requiring orthopaedic care will benefit from a new clinic at Khoula Hospital, which is expected to increase annual treatment capacity by more than 40%. In Al Wusta, PDO will co-fund a new Accident and Emergency Unit at Al Jazir Hospital, with capacity to treat more than 1,000 emergency cases annually.
