Sur – Plans to upgrade facilities and enhance environmental protection in the Ras Al Hadd Turtle Reserve were examined at a meeting convened by the Environment Authority (EA) on Thursday.

The discussions focused on progress in updating the reserve’s management framework, including completed technical studies aimed at improving oversight mechanisms and conserving biodiversity and natural habitats. Proposed projects within the reserve and its surrounding areas were also reviewed.
An environmental impact assessment for the Ras Al Hadd waterfront and coastal protection project was examined, with emphasis on compliance with approved environmental regulations and standards to safeguard coastal ecosystems and marine habitats while supporting sustainable development.
Participants further reviewed the Ras Al Hadd Lighthouse project, assessing its environmental and regulatory aspects and exploring ways to align the development with conservation objectives while enhancing tourism and heritage value in the wilayat.

The meeting was held in the presence of Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, and Dr Yahya Al Maawali, Governor of South Sharqiyah, along with representatives of government entities and other stakeholders.

The session forms part of national efforts to strengthen sustainable management of natural reserves and enhance environmental and development plans in South Sharqiyah governorate, balancing protection of natural resources with support for tourism and development initiatives.
Participants underscored the need for continued coordination among relevant entities to protect the environment and reinforce the role of natural reserves as a pillar of sustainable environmental and tourism development in Oman.
