29 Apr 2026 Five-bridge project on Suhar–Buraimi highway to boost traffic flow

Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is continuing construction of five bridges on the Suhar–Buraimi road at a cost exceeding RO6mn, as part of efforts to enhance the efficiency of the national road network and improve traffic safety.

The project aims to deliver a safe and sustainable road network, strengthen logistics efficiency and ease traffic flow on this key route linking North Batinah and Buraimi governorates, extending to border crossings. It is expected to support economic, tourism and social development, according to the ministry.

Mahmoud bin Khalfan Al Wahaibi, project manager, said the works include building five new wadi bridges to replace ageing structures constructed around 50 years ago, in line with the Oman Highway Design Standards 2017. He added that the project also involves protective works for bridge abutments and related infrastructure. Completion is expected within 18 months.

Al Wahaibi said the Suhar–Buraimi road is a strategic corridor supporting transport and logistics services due to its direct links to economic zones, ports and border crossings. The new bridges will ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and support growing tourism and social activity between the two governorates.

The project aligns with the ministry’s vision to develop an integrated, safe and sustainable road network that supports economic growth, diversification and the smooth movement of people and goods.
