Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has introduced a new IT Operations Continuity Policy aimed at ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of government digital systems during crises and emergencies.
The policy seeks to enhance the resilience of information technology operations across units of the state administrative apparatus and minimise the impact of potential disruptions on government services and business operations.
According to the ministry, the policy establishes a comprehensive framework to maintain the continuity of critical IT systems, data and services. It outlines a number of commitments designed to strengthen preparedness and response capabilities across government entities.
Key measures include the development of an internal continuity plan for IT operations, along with clearly defined roles and responsibilities for specialised continuity teams within government institutions. The policy also calls for regular testing of operational plans to verify readiness in handling emergencies and crisis situations.
As part of the framework, government entities will conduct Business Impact Analysis (BIA) to identify and prioritise the restoration of critical systems, services and data in the event of disruptions. The policy further emphasises the need to provide adequate resources and infrastructure to support the continuity of IT operations.
In addition, the ministry has introduced Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of continuity preparedness and ensure that institutions remain capable of responding efficiently to potential disruptions.
Officials said the initiative reflects the sultanate’s ongoing commitment to building a robust digital infrastructure capable of supporting government operations under all circumstances while safeguarding service continuity for citizens and residents.
