The Ministry of Education  ( MoE ) has announced that schools may shift to remote learning on Sunday, March 29, following weather warnings linked to the low-pressure system “Al-Masarrat” affecting several parts of Oman.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministry said the decision comes in response to alerts from the National Early Warning Centre regarding heavy rainfall and associated risks between March 24 and 28. Authorities are continuing to assess the impact of the weather system on educational facilities.

The ministry confirmed that damaged schools will be addressed and rehabilitated urgently after assessments are completed. Directorates of Education in the governorates have been granted the authority to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Regarding the direct start of classes on Sunday, the ministry stated that schools, universities and colleges may implement remote learning depending on each institution’s circumstances.

Officials emphasised that the move aims to maintain the continuity of education while prioritising safety during the ongoing weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the governorates of Dakhliyah, South Batinah, and Dhahirah have announced that distance learning will continue on Sunday, while Muscat Governorate will resume in-person classes.
