25 Mar 2026 Weather system to ease gradually by Sunday in Oman

Muscat – Adverse weather conditions are expected to continue affecting parts of Oman until Sunday, with a relatively high chance of rainfall on Friday morning, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Authorities warned that flash floods and water accumulation in low-lying areas are likely to persist in several regions, urging residents to remain cautious.

Nasser bin Saeed Al Ismaili, Director of the Forecasting and Early Warning System Department at the CAA, said the impact of the current weather system would continue through the weekend, although conditions may gradually stabilise in some governorates.

He said risks such as flash floods in wadis and the formation of water pools could continue during this period, stressing the need to follow safety instructions. He urged the public to avoid crossing wadis during rainfall and to refrain from going to sea, particularly during thunderstorms.

Hilal bin Salim Al Hajri, head of the Forecasting Department, said forecast for Thursday indicate relatively calmer conditions, with chances of thunderstorms in Buraimi, Dhahirah and North Batinah.

Monitoring stations recorded varying rainfall across the sultanate on Wednesday, with the highest at 57mm in Khasab Port in Musandam and 44mm at Abu Tabul in Al Wusta.

Al Hajri said rainfall ranged from moderate to very heavy in some areas and was at times accompanied by hail, triggering flash floods in wadis and streams.

He added that downdrafts with wind speeds of 37–93km/h were recorded in some areas, reducing visibility to near zero during periods of intense rainfall.

Authorities reiterated warnings to avoid crossing wadis and low-lying areas and to stay away from the sea, noting that some wadis may experience sudden surges of water.
