ROP urges parents to keep children away from water pools

Muscat – Royal Oman Police has released a short awareness video aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of protecting children during periods of rainfall and water accumulation, following adverse weather conditions that affected several parts of the sultanate.

The video carries a clear message to parents and guardians under the slogan: ‘Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock’, urging families to closely monitor their children and prevent them from approaching water pools, wadis and drainage channels, which can pose serious risks to their safety.

Authorities stressed that children’s safety begins with the family, calling on parents to exercise caution during rainy weather, when areas that may appear harmless can quickly become dangerous due to sudden water flow, slippery ground or the depth of water.

The awareness message comes after unfortunate incidents reported in recent days, in which floodwaters swept away a child in one of the wadi channels after he approached accumulated rainwater.

The police urged members of the public to act responsibly during such weather conditions, avoid unnecessary risks near wadis and flooded areas, and ensure that children do not play close to water pools formed after rainfall.

The ROP also called on the public to follow safety advisories issued by relevant authorities and adhere to precautionary measures, which help safeguard lives and property and strengthen community awareness about safety during adverse weather conditions.

The awareness campaign forms part of ongoing efforts by the ROP to promote preventive awareness and reduce weather-related accidents.
