Muscat – Muscat Municipality has expanded electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at several locations across the capital as part of efforts to support environmentally friendly transport and promote sustainable mobility.

The municipality has informed that new EV charging stations have been installed at Al Khuwair Flag Square, Bausher Park and the Green Walkway Seeb.

The initiative is part of broader programmes aimed at strengthening infrastructure for EVs and encouraging residents to adopt clean and energy-efficient transport options.

Officials said expanding the EV charging network will make electric cars more practical for daily use while contributing to reduced carbon emissions and improved environmental quality in the city.

The municipality added that the project aligns with its strategy to gradually extend charging facilities to additional public spaces and key locations across the governorate, supporting the transition towards sustainable urban mobility.

By the end of 2024, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology had launched more than 25 projects and pilot programmes supporting Oman’s green mobility transition. These include the introduction of biofuels in public transport, installation of more than 150 charging points nationwide and the registration of over 1,500 EVs.

The ministry is planning further initiatives, including replacing government vehicle fleets with EVs and developing dedicated green lanes for hydrogen-powered trucks.
