MHT calls hotels to adhere with tourism law

21 Jan 2026 MHT calls hotels to adhere with tourism law By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has issued a formal notification requiring all hotel establishments across the Sultanate to integrate their operations with the ‘Mueen’ electronic system. This directive applies to all licensed facilities, including hotels, hotel apartments, and tourism camps, ensuring that guest data is shared directly with the Royal Oman Police (ROP). The move is part of a national effort to streamline data collection, enhance regional security, and ensure transparent auditing within the hospitality sector.

Under the approved procedures, establishments must provide daily updates on guest lists, including information such as nationalities, check-in and check-out times, and visitor details. The ministry emphasised that connecting to the Mueen system is mandatory to maintain official records and support the accurate tracking of tourism revenues. To facilitate this, operators can use certified hotel management software that automatically submits logs to the government portal, eliminating manual reporting.

The MHT has urged all non-compliant establishments to complete the linking process promptly to avoid legal measures. Failure to adhere to these regulations or provide regular data as per the ministerial decision will be considered a violation of the governing tourism laws. This initiative aligns with Oman’s digital transformation goals and the broader strategy to create a safe, high-quality environment for international visitors.
